Apollonia Dental Group has been serving the Bay Area since 1981, providing exceptional dental care across two generations. Our practice was founded by Dr. Joseph Cortese, who established our original Albany office under the name Cortese Dental. This location was later renamed to Apollonia Dental Group, reflecting our growth and expanded services.
In 2010, we expanded our reach by opening our Fremont office, allowing us to serve even more patients in the Bay Area.
Today, our practice is led by Dr. Frank Cortese, son of our founder, alongside his brother-in-law, Dr. Brendan Selway. This family connection further strengthens our commitment to providing caring, personalized dental services.
Together, Dr. Frank Cortese and Dr. Brendan Selway continue the legacy of excellence in dental care that has been our hallmark for over four decades. Dr. Brendan Selway is a dedicated dental professional with a strong academic foundation. He graduated with honors from San Jose State University in 2004, earning a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. His pursuit of excellence continued at the University of Maryland Dental School, where he again graduated with honors in 2008. Following his formal education, Dr. Selway completed a General Practice Residency with the VA in Vallejo, CA. His commitment to advancing his skills is evident through his numerous professional affiliations. He holds a fellowship with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, is an Associate Fellow with the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, and a Fellow with the California Implant Institute. Dr. Selway's passion for science and dentistry drives his commitment to making a significant impact in his field. When not in the office, he cherishes time with his wife and their eleven children, often traveling for family vacations or supporting his kids' competitive sports activities. Dr. Selway also gives back to his community by volunteering as a science teacher at his alma mater, Thomas More School, where he inspires the next generation of scientists.

Dr. Frank Cortese is a Bay Area native and former Warm Springs Little Leaguer. Dr. Cortese attended San Jose State University under a full academic scholarship. He later graduated in the top ten in his class at the University of Maryland Dental School and then attended residency at the University of Colorado. During his residency he studied orthodontics. Dr. Cortese has since practiced dentistry with his father, Dr. Joseph Cortese and Dr. Selway in their Albany and Fremont offices. Dr. Cortese is a proud husband and father of five children and has nine siblings that all live locally. He enjoys spending his off time coaching and hanging out with his huge family! (He also met his perfect wife in dental school.)
